From Romanticism to Decadence (TRU2010)

30 credits

This module is a survey course covering British literature and culture between 1800 and 1900, beginning with Romanticism, covering some key ‘High Victorian’ material (e.g. the realist novel, the elegiac poem), and concluding with the fin-de-siecle. Throughout, attention is paid to the main contexts of the era, including the rise of technology, conceptions of nation and empire, and changes in religion and science.
