This Blessed Plot: Landscape and Literature in the Eighteenth Century and Beyond (EAS3407)

30 credits

An appreciation of the beauty of landscape runs like a green thread though English literature. Never more was this the case than in the 18th century, when new aesthetic theories and dramatic changes to town and countryside prompted wide-ranging reassessments of the natural environment. Arranged in themes designed to show the lasting influence of 18th-century landscape writing on nature writing today, the module explores the relationship between landscape, place and the creative imagination and invites you to conduct research on a natural setting of personal significance to you.
