15 credits

This module will introduce you to the conventions and practices of studying English at undergraduate level, promoting independent learning and critical thinking as you adapt to the university environment. You will have the chance to practice essential skills - such as structuring a clear argument and providing accurate references for secondary sources - which you will use throughout your academic career. The module also includes a selection of twentieth and twenty-first century literature that provides the opportunity to discuss issues of creative development, academic culture and literary experimentation in a fictional context.
