Cinematic Flows Between East Asia and Hollywood (EAF3512)

30 credits

Cinemas from East Asia are attracting popular and critical attention on a global scale. This module aims to explore Hollywood's fascination with East Asian cultures and cinemas since the end of the Second World War. From kung fu stars to cult genres, East Asian films and filmmakers have penetrated the American film market and film industry. More recently, Hollywood has increasingly been remaking East Asian films and employing East Asian cast and crew.  The module traces these transpacific cinematic flows, mapping the changing filmmaking traditions in Asia alongside the "Asianisation" of Hollywood.
