The Dream Palace: Cinemagoing, Audiences and Media (EAF3236)

30 credits

This module  will take you into the archive, into Exeter’s city streets and into digital media spaces and platforms to introduce you to a range of ways of thinking about the place of the audience in media histories. The module focuses on the 20th and early 21st centuries, drawing on a diverse pool of media texts from film to literature and new media. The module will offer you a detailed exploration of cinemagoing and media audiences ranging from the local to the global, whilst introducing you to a range of theoretical and practical perspectives for interrogating the role that audiences play in media histories. Prior experience with film studies modules is not a prerequisite for study on the module; the course is particularly open to students on interdisciplinary pathways.
