Dr Sharanya Murali

Lecturer in Drama (E&S)

I am completed my PhD in Drama at the University of Exeter on performance-ethnographic encounters with walking in New Delhi, and was a teaching assistant at Exeter until mid-2017. I have subsequently lectured at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, and Sophia College, Mumbai. I also write essays on culture and book reviews.

Research interests

I teach across 20th century theatre, visual culture and literature. My research interests include feminist visual culture, South Asian studies, memory studies, transnational and decolonial theory and performance, women in Indian cinema, photo-performance, walking, and ethnographies of violence. My current project ‘Entanglements of Violence’ explores the transnational affects of contemporary Indian and British-Asian women's performance.
