Dr Sharanya Murali

Lecturer in Drama (E&S)

I am completed my PhD in Drama at the University of Exeter on performance-ethnographic encounters with walking in New Delhi, and was a teaching assistant at Exeter until mid-2017. I have subsequently lectured at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, and Sophia College, Mumbai. I also write essays on culture and book reviews.

Research interests

I teach across 20th century theatre, visual culture and literature. My research interests include walking/urban performance, feminist visual culture, South Asian studies, memory studies, transnational and decolonial theory and performance, women in Indian cinema, photo-performance, and ethnographies of violence. I am keen on devising processes that involve an investigation of the material present/past through social dramaturgies. My current project ‘Entanglements of Violence’ explores the transnational affects of contemporary Indian and British-Asian women's performance.
