Applied Performance: A Reflective Practice (DRAM130)

30 credits

The module aims to introduce students to critical discourse and debate concerning the act of applying performance in and across a range of social fields including, but not limited to: education, community development, health, human rights and social justice. The module will take a contextual and practical approach to the field of applied theatre excavating the space and place of theatre practice in social settings. Through engagement in seminar discussion and practical workshops, this module offers students a range of challenges providing opportunities to develop critical thinking and facilitation skills relevant to this field. Alongside theoretical reflection on practice, the module aims to impart practical skills in order for students to develop a facilitation practice leading to the design and implementation of an applied/community-based theatre workshop.                   

Students following this module will be required to complete and clear a DBS enhanced disclosure.
