The Old and the New Globe Theatres - Year 2 (DRAM088)

15 credits

This module allows students to develop their understanding of some of the performance conditions of Elizabethan theatre through a combination of seminar discussions--conducted in the Drama department and led by Drama department staff--and a two-week residency at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, where students will engage in practical classes with members of the Globe Theatre’s staff and associate artists. The residency will culminate with a short group performance of an abridged play (or scenes from a play) on the Globe stage.

Students will hone the practical knowledge they gained in their first residency at Shakespeare’s Globe (in Year 1 of the MFA) and develop their critical writing skills by undertaking a research essay on a topic of their choosing about Shakespeare’s Globe.
