Playwriting (DRA3075)

30 credits

This module offers an expanded view of playwriting to encompass a wide range of forms of writing for performance, including, but not limited to the dramatic text. You will be introduced to examples of texts by very different writers, loosely grouped around weekly themes. These themes invite you to think of writing in relationship to various aspects of performance: sound; image; movement; autobiographical presentation. A creative task each week offers a chance to try out ideas and give feedback to each other. This is assessed through continuous assessment and is followed by a further assessed piece of extended writing and an essay.

Incoming international students and Exeter students from other disciplines welcome, subject to availability. In addition to students of drama, performance or theatre studies, this module will engage the interest of students with a background in languages and literatures.
