Technical Resources

 The technical team consists of three permanent staff dedicated to supporting Drama students and staff;

  • Jon Primrose, Technical Manager
  • Chris Mearing, Technician
  • Alice Chalk, Technical Assistant
  • Michelle Yeates, Wardrobe Technician

We provide a range of services related to the running of all practical and logistical aspects of the Drama undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We're based around the Technical Office in the Alexander Building at Thornlea, and manage the infrastructure of the Drama buildings, dealing with everything from chairs to stage combat weapons, via IT queries for Drama staff and students, stage lighting and sound & AV systems. We also manage the props and construction workshops, where we help students building props and scenery for practical projects. We also hold a large stock of props, furniture, staging and scenery, along with costumes and accessories.

We also assist staff and students with the audio-visual needs of the programme with particular expertise in video documentation, editing and production, and provide a range of video, lighting and sound equipment for students and staff to use for research and practice.

Exeter Digital Archives is an expanding collection of drama-related archives which have been made available for streaming on the campus network, previously curated by Peter Hulton who was the Drama archivist prior to retirement, and now managed by Chris Mearing.

The Drama department is an Apple Authorised Training Centre for Education which enables students or staff from across the College to take internationally-recognised exams in the use of Apple Pro applications (such as Final Cut Pro for video editing). Although time doesn't currently allow us to offer training in the software, we're happy to provide advice on how you can learn the software, then take the exam with us, and we can obviously answer any questions you have about using the software.

Michelle manages the wardrobe store which provides a huge range of costumes and accessories to Drama course-related projects. The prop and furniture stores are well-equipped to provide items for course-related activities.
