Drama 50 Alumni Weekend
In the autumn of 1968, John Rudlin opened the doors of an ambitious new Department of Drama here in Exeter. 50 years on, we continue to thrive. We are one of the biggest and most fruitful Drama Departments in the UK, with 24 permanent members of staff and over 400 students.
We would like to mark and celebrate this anniversary with the people who've made us what we are today. If you are a former student or staff member of the Department, we would like to invite you to join us in Exeter on the weekend of 1-2 September 2018 for an assortment of nostalgia, merriment and looking forward.
Saturday 1st September 2018
We will operate an open house at our Thornlea site on the Saturday afternoon. Maybe you'd like to connect up with your University peers first - have lunch, hang out somewhere in the city that holds importance to you. Then check in with us at some point to say you've arrived, have a glass of fizz, meet others, participate in some facilitated or un-facilitated reminiscence, meet some current students, take a tour of the Department as it is now... Relaxed activities will be happening throughout the afternoon, from 2pm-6pm, so you can put in an appearance whenever you like.
Then, on the Saturday evening, we've booked The Lemon Grove, a.k.a. The Lemmy, a.k.a. The Pit, from 6.30pm till late for more catching up with old friends, opportunities to make new ones, eating and drinking, cabaret, and dancing our way through 50 years of student music, from 1968 to 2018. The cost of a buffet is included in the registration cost, and you will be able to buy drinks at the bar.
Sunday 2nd September 2018
On the Sunday morning, we're planning to host a series of parallel, future-facing practical workshops and discussions about the future of Drama (its place in education, the creative industries and society more broadly), before coming back together for a final session that will finish by 2pm.
We really hope you are able to join us in September. And that you will understand that, due to the potentially large numbers of former student and staff attendees, we won't be able to accommodate non-Drama alumni (including family members) at the weekend's events.
