My research is dedicated to Roman history very broadly. I am interested in the Roman Republic, Late Antiquity, Roman administration, law, religion, and numismatics; Latin literature of all periods, and Greek writers of the Roman Empire.

In a forthcoming monograph, The Justice of Constantine, published by the University of Michigan Press, I show how Constantine used various forms of legislation to communicate with his subjects and imperial officials; how he depicted himself and his rule in such enactments; and how he sought to guarantee the functioning of the civil administration of the Empire and maintain his control over it by means of public edicts and official correspondence.

I am currently researching how Roman magistrates perceived and interacted with sanctuaries, temples, and gods outside Roman territory in the middle and late Republic. This project will analyze Roman religion in the context of the integration of Rome in the Hellenistic world and the construction of a new concept of Roman identity.
