Visual and Material Culture
The Department has also emerged in recent years as a centre for research on visual and material culture, with links with the Exeter Archaeology Department. Current projects include portraiture and society in the later Roman Empire (Barbara Borg), material culture and social life in Roman Britain (Martin Pitts), and place, identity and migration in Italy (Elena Isayev). This research has been funded by RCUK, the AHRC, Leverhulme, and by the Davis Center in Princeton and the Getty Centre in Los Angeles.
