Outward and forward looking in our approach, we are continually expanding the range and diversity of our teaching without ever losing sight of the traditional core of the discipline. We are proud of our commitment to offer training in ancient languages at all levels, with large numbers taking our beginners courses every year. We are equally proud to be at the forefront of innovative approaches to the teaching of classical subjects, from creative forms of assessment to exploring contemporary applications of the classical past.

Undergraduate

Classics and Ancient History at Exeter is one of the largest and most successful centres for the study of the ancient world in the UK, with an excellent reputation in both teaching and research nationally and internationally.

We offer a range of single and joint honours undergraduate programmes in Classics, Classical Studies and Ancient History, tailored to students from all backgrounds. These flexible and challenging courses give you the opportunity to explore the breadth of our discipline, as well as to develop expertise in specific areas.

Postgraduate

Our MA in Classics and Ancient History reflects our broad range of expertise in the languages, literature, philosophy, art, archaeology, history, and cultures of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds and beyond.

The programme is fully flexible, allowing you to create your own programme based on your particular interests and aims, and we offer a range of international opportunities that vary from year to year. We provide a wide variety of specialist modules based on our diverse areas of research, together with optional language teaching at all levels. You will undertake training in specific research skills designed to help you succeed across your studies, and can tailor these skills to reflect your individual needs and requirements.
