Message from the Head of Classics and Ancient History, Professor Barbara Borg

In choosing to study with us, you will be joining one of the largest and most successful departments of Classics and Ancient History in the country, which offers exceptionally broad expertise across the full range of the traditional fields of classics including the disciplines of Greek and Latin language and literature as well as Ancient History, including Ancient Philosophy and Classical Archaeology. We have 18 full members of staff, as well as research fellows, professors, emeriti, and other scholars associated with the department whom you will encounter during your time here.

You will find that both in our research and in our teaching we take an interdisciplinary perspective, and we have close links to other departments, both in the College of Humanities and beyond, including history, archaeology, philosophy, theology and foreign languages.

We have a strong ethos of research-inspired teaching at all levels, we have a dynamic, vibrant Postgraduate community, and our Postgraduates are actively involved in our conferences, research seminars, and other departmental activities. We are all highly research-active, internationally engaged, interested in interdisciplinary exchange of ideas, and driven by a genuine curiosity for our fields.
