Hellenistic Culture and Society (CLAM041A)

30 credits

In the first semester, the module explores the evolution of a complex new literary culture in the Hellenistic period, and the development of new literary genres. In the second semester, the historical agenda will focus on a history of Hellenistic Kings, Cities and ethnic communities, their development and interaction (also with Rome) and on the public and private life of the people living in this Hellenistic World. Source material will include a wide range of (often fragmentary) historiography, literary texts, and copious numbers of inscriptions.
