Ancient Arts and Crafts: Perspectives on Material Culture (ARC2125)

15 credits

This module will introduce you to theories of arts and crafts within material culture. You will develop an understanding of how material culture has been part of our own evolution, examining it within the context of paleoanthropology and human societies, past and present. You will use a range of interpretative strategies, drawing especially on craft ethnographies, experimental archaeology and anthropological evidence, as a means of interpreting prehistoric material culture. Examples will be drawn from a wide geographic range with the archaeological focus on prehistory.

This module is recommended for interdisciplinary pathways.
